NEW: Google launches cobalt-free smartphone

In a brave and socially responsible move, Google have launched the world's first cobal-free smartphone.

Making good on their company motto to "Be less evil", the tech giant has abandoned plans to produce any future smartphones and replace all lines with the new cobalt-free, Paper Phone.

People are addicted to their smartphones and smartphones are in turn hooked on their lithium-ion batteries. And those batteries can't function without cobalt - sweet, sweet cobalt.

Child labour available at 8 pence a day

We are all cobalt junkies shuffling along in these chains of dependency from our thumbs to the mines in Congo where cobalt is harvested by ill-paid, child labourers when it isn't being fought over by ruthless militia.

There is no legal requirement for companies to publicly report on their cobalt supply chains so no one can guarantee that your new phone doesn't arrive with the trampling of a thousand souls*.

Until now!

*Paper Phone will require paper which comes from trees which we need much more of to offset climate change so mass adoption of Paper Phone will put us at odds with the selfish Earth meaning the choice is between exploiting poor children and leaving the world habitable.
