A pedestrian in London was startled to death when a passing ambulance turned its siren on as it passed her.
Witnesses say the woman, who was pushing her child in a pram at the time, jumped then collapsed on the pavement whilst clutching her heart.
"She made a silent scream and then her eyes rolled back into her head then the baby rolled into the shop. But it had no ID so I couldn't sell the alcohol," said a shopkeeper with full view of the tragedy.
The unprecedented nature of the accident left many confused with one onlooker commenting, "I thought she had stifled her sneeze, you know? I even said to my wife, that's what happens when you don't let it out."
A different ambulance crew was on the scene within two minutes but were admonished by the local crowd for also using a siren, thus showing no respect for the deceased.
The autopsy found her in average health and her GP's records indicate that her reflexes were good, for a girl.
As a result emergency services are facing public pressure to lower the volume of their sirens or change them altogether.
