Durex has had to apologise for their Valentine's Day campaign promoting new love-themed face masks in China, with the slogan "Share the love. Not the virus."
The campaign was branded insensitive and "shameless" and "an example of heartless capitalism in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic" by politicians, charities and celebrity doctors.
Chinese social media was ablaze with people calling for the expulsion of Durex from the country.
"They can roll one of their over-sized condoms over their heads and GET F**KED!" commented 说谎者
The company was quick to pull the product from stores and apologise but this has done little to salvage their reputation.
"How many people saw this idea and approved it, or worse, said nothing and let it go ahead?!"
The company has used the same strap-line in a previous 2-for-1 campaign, then referring to a sex-based virus called HIV.
