Talking with your mouth full of food is actually
not less, says science.
Speaking whilst eating is often seen as a sign of lower intelligence, lack of manners and inconsideration for the eyes and ears of others.
Studies have shown, however, that chewing & chatting is an example of cerebral persistence over lower-level physiological functions.
According to lead researcher, Dr. Peter Flangan, and his lunch, "Such displays of unbridled brain power are typical of higher IQ individuals. It's basically mind over matter."
The University of Arkham's study has been hailed as groundbreaking research for not only its results but the method too.
Researchers asked a randomised sample of volunteers to dinner dates not knowing if they would be seated across from volunteers or fellow, re-randomised colleagues.
Secret cameras and heat sensors then tracked the diners and scanned their faces for super-intelligent manners.
Participants were asked to complete a verbal IQ test during dessert and their scores were tallied alongside the splatter of chocolate mousse on the interviewer's face.
The results, which revealed an overwhelmingly positive correlation between intelligence and absent-mindedly spitting food, have also re-written table manners.
"You know what, I think my ex sub-consciously knew this his whole life," said a volunteer after the findings were released. "His mother used to say the world would come to appreciate his 'street-smartness' one day."
